" Music for the Soul " Patron Party Auction

Bill Allen's piano for this auction is in memory of Amy's grandfather Glenn Boney who had a dance band in the big band era. They were billed as Glenn Boney and His Orchestra and played up and down the Mississippi. Amy grew up with stacks and stacks of his sheet music, some of which has been reduced and copied for this project. Note the play numbers and all the music had his name on it in pencil which did not pick up well. All that sheet music was contained in brown expanding portfolios like the one on the piano. He played the trombone, wore a beat up fedora, smoked cigars, and had more than water in that glass.

Cary Yerves say's "I decided since most people would likely choose the piano to alter for their Patron Party submission, I would be different and select the Gramophone. After much thought and numerous changes, this is the final piece. I found a nice shadowbox to put it in and complete the vignette. I call it 'Just An Old Fashion Love Song' and that pretty much sums up what I was trying to exemplify".

Gwen Campbell's description.
This piano was created to reflect our Saturday evening Dancing Men Review or whatever you want to call it. The mystery of the Dancing Men is one of Sherlock Holmes' stories. The piano was hand painted with roses because after the ladies have done their dance they should certainly receive roses. The lady on the piano represents one of our dancers. She was originally a plaster cowgirl sitting on a barrel, but has been transformed into the beauty you see now. The seat cushion was upholstered with a small rose print. The music on the piano is actually reduced sheet music "Real Big Spender" from Sweet Charity.

This is Babette Overman's description of her piano.
This Patron Party piano and I have become best of friends...finally, I am almost finished, I have been at this for months! For those of you who do not know, I absolutely love Halloween and witches, of course, witches are not all BAD witches. My piano is a "Screamway" baby grand designed for "Liberanita". She is the witch who composes musical tunes for that special October night of frightening screams and mysterious potions. She loves using wicked vine leaf juice in her potions. You can see here a series of wicked vines growing from the "inners" of her piano. I like my piano so much I bet I may bid on it!

"Champagne" the lovely song from the opera Die Fledermous. The pink moire painted piano involkes the song with bottles of champagne and bubbles flowing out over the bench onto the ground.

Champagne a joy of life.

These are Georgia Matushak's musical instruments

All of the instruments talked to me and like yours has a story to tell....and they go like this...

The gramophone was jealous as it didn't have legs like the pianos....so it got "dancing feet that feel the beat".

One piano wanted to be pink but I talked it into just pink inside....."in the pink and has the music in it" with a 1/4" piano inside and a tiny one in it.

Now the last piano INSISTED on being a golden harpsichord so changed it and added a 1/4" harp inside saying "without music life would be flat"

This fabulous creation by Shannon Moore

I found this children's piano book and thought it would be the perfect backdrop for my piano. The first song in the book was Hey Diddle Diddle and thus my inspiration was born. Now every one knows Hey Diddle Diddle needs a cat with a fiddle and so "Cool Cat" came to life with fur and his fiddle. I thought the piano needed a little bit more zip to it's tune so "The Piano Band" decided to drop in. I added a mirror so you could see them in action. The laughing dog didn't want to be seen in public but the cow and the dish with the spoon are visible. The colored notes on the floor match up with the keys on edge of the book so you can lead Cool Cat and The Piano Band in your own rendition of Hey Diddle Diddle.

Janet Smith made all the half inch, quarter inch, and micro foods. The 1" stuff is from her stash with the exception of the cake she made in one of Carl's classes awhile ago. Janet has four scales represented here.
