F1 - English Paper Pieced Miniature Quilts

Learn the English Paper Piecing technique for hand sewing miniature quilts where corners match and figures can be highlighted.  You will be taught the technique by making pillows and can then choose one of the many different quilt kits (included in price of class).  Many different kits are available and more are being developed.  All supplies are included in the class and you only need to bring a paper scissors, fabric scissors and thimble.  You can finish the pillow tops in class with good instructions, patterns and notes on making and finishing your selected quilt kit.

Minimum skill level: Beginner    ½” or 1” scale    $37

F2 - English Commode

This English commode was originally intended to be used in a corner of the bed chamber, but would be appropriate to use anywhere you’d like a lovely corner piece.  The cherry commode has graceful curved side legs, a small shelf on the top along with two other shelves.  Under the bottom shelf are two false drawers plus a center working drawer.

F3 - English Garden Vignette

What is more English than a cottage garden?  In this class you will create an English cottage garden vignette including hollyhocks, zinnias and purple alyssum.  You will learn wet and dry techniques for shaping paper flowers as well as tricks for creating boulders and a base from foam.  You will plant your flowers in your base which will be sized to fit inside a 4” dome (not included).  Tools needed are a basic toolbox, snap-blade utility knife, medium ball stylus, small paint brush, fine tweezers, Tacky glue, sandpaper and straight pins.

F4 - A Pair of Chairs with Woven Seats

Weave the rope seats on a pair of handcrafted side chairs using the same method as used on full sized chairs with a few techniques for translation to miniature scale.  These are companion chairs to the souvenir rocking chair from the 2009 National Convention in Indianapolis.

F5 - Designing the Straw Hat in Miniature

Throughout history, hats have been constructed of straw.  By varying the width and shape of the brim, the shape and height of the crown, the same construction techniques may be used to create hats of many periods and styles, from the brimless toque to the popular gipsy hat of 1790-1830, the oversized Edwardian boater and the 1950’s cartwheel.  Students construct a basic straw hat and learn how it can be varied to create a variety of historical headgear.  Several trimming techniques employing vintage ribbonwork, paper flower construction, feathers, beads and findings will be demonstrated, accompanied by written instructions.  Materials will be provided to create several hats.  Please bring small sharp scissors, pointed tweezers and magnifiers, if needed. One stand included.

F6 - Pleated Canopy Bed Set

Students will learn to pleat, dress and decorate bedroom accessories in a very simplistic way, enabling you to continue in the future more creations of your own. This is a fun project!  You will take home your completed pleated canopy bed, 2-piece vanity set and skirted table.  You may choose your own material or mine.  Please choose 100% cotton.  I will send you samples of material I have beforehand

F7 -  3-D Queen Anne Victorian - 5th in series

3-D Decoupage with a TWIST!  Using paper cutting techniques to create a 3-D effect, you will transform detailed pictures of a wonderful Queen Anne Victorian House into a 3-D vignette.  The cut paper pieces will be embellished with laces, greenery and floral foam.  This scene also includes 3 metal mini furniture pieces for the wood based porch and many other items to enhance the 3-D effect.  The completed piece in a decorative 5 X 7 frame is 1 3/4” deep.  Class includes everything shown.  The paper cutting and embellishing techniques learned can be applied to projects of your own.  Finish paper-layered scene is equivalent to 1/144th scale.

F8 - The Cobbles – a Quarter Scale Cottage in a Dome

This elfish little cottage looks like any that dot the countryside of Great Britain.  Students will build the structure, decorate the exterior with prepared shingles and stones and then paint.  The dome is included in the class as is the re-useable mold to create more shingles and stones.

F9 - Quarter Scale British Holiday in Africa

Construct 2 chairs, couch, fireplace, an elephant table and a ceiling fan.  Learn techniques of staining, covering cushions, painting the laser cut wood pieces, and an easy way to make a table and a pedestal using beads and paper.  Then put together 2 plants.  Paper the walls and install a wood floor and windows.  Finish the room with decorative accessories that will be supplied; included are plates, a rug, pictures for the walls, and an elephant statue.  Assemble them in a wooden box that will be supplied.  Enjoy your holiday (vacation) in Africa.

F10 - Quarter Inch Scale Park Scene

This is a fun workshop where you will learn special techniques in weathering, sculpting, carving and landscaping with the use of different glues and materials. Some of the techniques will be demonstrated but not used in the class including pedestals, wall fountains and brick trim.  Students will landscape, weather and assemble their park and take it home in its own included protective case.

F11 - English Garden Cabinet

Enchanted with English flower gardens?  Love the Impressionist painters such as Monet and Cezanne?  Now you can create your own miniature Impressionist garden.  This cabinet will be pre-built for you so you can get right to painting.  You will receive a pre-drawn wrap-around pattern, but you are encouraged to draw your own scene if desired.  You will learn shading, drybrushing, and pointillism in an impressionistic manner.  Your finished piece will be a beautifully painted cabinet with a bird’s nest on top.  For those into smaller scales, the inside can be divided into floors for 144th scale furnishings.

F12 - Raggedy Toy Box Treasures

Everybody needs a special place to relax and have fun and dolls are no exception.  Help your Raggedy find her special place as you build this darling 5” x 3” x 3” toy box get-away.  Half of the toy box is a window seat tucked behind a built in bookshelf where she can look out the window and day dream.  The other half is open for playtime with her friends.  Toy box exterior is adorned with handmade heart and flower buttons, window boxes and whimsical shutters.

F13 - Basket of Breads

Students will make 7 different loaves of bread by using molds which will be given to the students.  They will learn how to color and texturize their breads using soft pastels and other media material.  The molds will be kept by the students so they can make more at home.

F14 - Wendy in Merry Olde England

Wendy (or just a little girl ready for bed, if you prefer!)  is dressed in a flowered empire-style nightgown and slippers, ready for her trip to Never-Neverland.  Her curls are pulled back pony-tail style and tied with a matching ribbon.  Students have their choice of a standing doll (doll stand included) or a kneeling doll (Please indicate choice on registration form).  All porcelain doll, wigged and ready to dress. Students will dress the doll in her panties and nightgown and make her slippers.  Students will need fabric glue and sharp fabric scissors.  A monoject glue gun and Clover type quilting iron would be helpful.
