Thursday Morning ~ July 16th |
TH1 – Wrought Iron Chandelier This is the perfect chandelier for Country, Colonial or Rustic settings. Make and electrify a 5 candle faux wrought iron hanging fixture. Then paint or antique it – choosing black iron, antique tin or antique copper finish. In the course of making the chandelier, you will be taught how to wire it for electricity, including soldering the wires together. You will finish with a stylish electrified chandelier for the miniature home or room box and a sconce to match, available in either 1” or ½” scale. TH2 - U Finish ‘Em – Decorating & Glazing Pottery Craig will provide 14 custom hand thrown pots in various sizes and shapes for each student. Class participants will learn the traditional cobalt blue brush and pen decorating techniques, spongeware and staining. Plus, they will get lots of tips and tricks on finishing the pots – both in the decorating and glazing techniques. Traditional or scenic/nature looks provided by Craig may be used or the students may use their own creative designs. The pieces will be fired and returned to students at the banquet. TH3 – YoYo Quilt Learn to make a yoyo quilt. You will get 300 pre-cut nickel size pieces of 100% cotton fabric. No two prints, patterns or colors will be repeated. You will learn how to make the rosettes and thread them together to make a quilt. The quilt will be finished at home. These quilts were very popular in the 30’s and 40’s. The only skill needed to make this quilt is the ability to make a running stitch to gather the edges of the rosettes. Anyone can learn to do this! Minimum skill level: Beginner 1” scale $62 |
TH4 - Half Inch Scale Juliet Doll Participants will learn costuming, wig making and sewing techniques as they dress this beautiful ½” scale Juliet doll. She measures 2 ½” tall. and will be dressed in silk, French lace, and gold lame ribbon with a gold and silver chapel cap. Her pantalets are pima cotton and her slip is made of Swiss organdy edged with lace. Minimum skill level: Intermediate ½” scale $55 |
TH5 – Fresh from My English Garden This casually elegant arrangement of white hollyhocks, pink arum calla lilies and magenta hibiscus complement the soft pastels of the delicate gilded porcelain vase from Australia. There’s a lot of detail involved in making these realistic flowers, right down to the fuzzy yellow spadix within the calla lilies. You’ll learn basic flower making techniques and some of my favorite painting tricks. Acrylic display boxes will be provided to showcase your work and assure you get it home safely. Bring large ball stylus, computer mouse pad, tiny embroidery scissors, pointed needle-nose tweezers, ¼” or 3/8” angle brush and wire cutters. Minimum skill level: Beginner 1” scale $98 |
TH6 - Sweetheart Castle & Furniture Micro enthusiasts will love this beautiful 2 story Sweetheart Castle in white and gold with tower pennants and decorative heart balconies. The kit will also include a 9 piece bedroom set perfectly matched to the castle. Participants will finish it off with landscaping and a 4 ½” by 3 ½” oval base. Of course if you are a 1” buff, this project is perfect for a little girl’s room in your 1” dollhouse. Minimum skill level: Beginner 1/144th $32 |
TH7 – My Garden Potting Corner My Garden Potting Corner is a lattice walled structure complete with shelves and a potting bench (laser cut kits). You will not complete every last detail during the class time, but you will receive all of the items pictured – the water pump, bucket, shovels and pitchforks, terra cotta pots, assorted metal cans and containers, graphics and all of the landscaping materials in addition to the acrylic display cube and wood base. During class we will focus on completing the shed and potting bench, paint and weather the interlocking tile floor and start the landscaping. The instructor will demonstrate how to make the hanging plant and all of the landscaping and you will receive complete directions with color photos. Minimum skill level: Beginner ¼” scale $87 |
TH8- Quicker Wicker Furniture (¼”and/or ½”) Create a grouping of ¼” or ½” wicker furniture with ease. Quicker Wicker is furniture designed by the instructor, woven and cast in resin. The tedious work is done – all you do is clean each piece, assemble the parts and paint. Choose one or both scales and learn a few interesting finishing techniques to change the look of the wicker. Minimum skill level: Beginner ¼” & ½” scale $57 |
TH9 – Basic Mold Making and Casting Resin casting can be useful in miniatures for making multiple identical items or for duplicating complicated originals. Learn this process first hand. In class, you will learn how to pour cast pieces using 2 part resin in furnished molds and experience making a one part mold using two part silicone rubber. All materials will be supplied and a source list will be given to all students. Students will leave with several cast pieces, a rubber mold they have created and the knowledge to repeat the process at home. Photo illustrates materials that will be used in class. TH10 - Quarter Scale Tudor Bed Stain and assemble this bed including turned bedposts, curved molding and a headboard you will make with 8 panels. Learn how to make the panels look like linen fold that was used on panels during the Tudor period. Techniques to make the bed cover, bolster, pillows and bed curtain using cotton fabric are also included and there is no sewing involved! The kit for the candle stand is included and will be stained and assembled if there is time. Students will need scissors, tweezers, small cutting board, craft knife and small glue jig. Minimum skill level: Intermediate ¼” scale $62 |
TH11 – 3-D English Christening Gown Display Students will make a 1½” deep box from pre-cut foam core that will fit into the provided 5x7 picture frame. Pink or blue fabric will be draped and glued to the box to make an interesting backdrop for the christening gown and bonnet you will make. Everything shown will be included. Please feel free to bring other small items from your collection to add to the display. The hardest part may be how to arrange everything to your taste. You will need fabric tac glue, small paper scissors and white tacky glue. Minimum skill level: Beginner 1” scale $37 |
TH12 - Quarter Inch Scale Miss Ivy’s Miss Ivy has been teaching piano lessons from the bottom floor of her tiny house for as long as anyone can remember. Like the ivy she was named after, her house is green with wood trim. Envision a music room on the first floor and a tiny bedroom on the second floor. The class, like all of Miss Ivy’s lessons, may be completed in the time allotted as long as students concentrate and keep proper time. All of the wallpaper and bricking comes with a self-adhesive back. Also included is the glass dome and turntable base. Furniture for the house will be available separately for those who have practiced their scales. Minimum skill level: Beginner. ¼” scale $77 |
TH13 – Faux, Faux, Faux This class was developed by the instructor, a Hollywood Movie Miniaturist, to help understand the “How and Why of Faux Marble.” It will explore painting techniques used to achieve painted marble in miniature with water based products adaptable to full sized furniture. Each student will experiment on a practice board and complete two 1” scale pedestals while learning how to connect each side. The secret to the realistic marble finish will also be revealed. All paints and 2 special brushes included. Bring your basic tool kit. Minimum skill level: Beginner ny scale $97 |
TH14 – Christmas in July Come celebrate Chrismas in July by assembling our 1” Christmas Tree Kit. This tree is 8” tall, but may be modified to 6”. You will assemble 9 packages of branches and shoots using small needle nose pliers. Using a hot glue pot, students will apply a sparkle cedar pine to the ends of the finished branches. The finished branches are then twisted around a dowel forming the Christmas Tree. A set of colored or clear lights will then be attached to the tree. Minimum skill level: Beginner 1” scale $59
