December 2025 - Want to Build a Smowman?
For December, we asked you to send in a picture of a snowman or snowman themed scene.
Our challenge sample comes from Carolyn Eiche who writes:
Two Snowman Market Stalls made from kits by Suzanne Larson-Tamburo, formally Suzanne & Andrews Miniatures -- Let it Snow & There's No Business Like Snow Business. Since I have a January birthday I seem to be drawn to snowmen and snow scenes even though I hate the cold.

My snowman is a tiny winter storyteller, standing proudly in his own frosty forest moment. Built with soft, snowy textures, he wears a classic black top hat accented with festive holly, giving him a timeless holiday charm. His bright carrot nose and sweet, slightly quirky expression make him feel full of personality—like he’s mid-conversation with winter itself.
Wrapped snugly in a sparkling red scarf, he brings a pop of holiday cheer against the snowy white ground beneath his feet. In one hand, he carries a miniature wreath tied with a red bow, a welcoming symbol of the season. Around him, bottle-brush evergreen trees dusted with snow create a peaceful woodland backdrop, making the scene feel cozy, magical, and straight out of a vintage Christmas postcard.
This little snowman may be small, but he’s full of heart, whimsy, and December magic—perfect for celebrating creativity and holiday joy in the challenge.

Well, I may have gotten carried away with my one inch tall snowmen! They are just so fun to make out of Sculpy. I make and bake a batch of noses first so that they are easier to stick in the faces. The eyes are tiny no hole glass beads. I had enough to give one to each member of our Mini Club and some to family members too. I did keep a couple for myself. I love how they each have their own personality when their faces are done. My husband say that I giggle every time I finish one!

This is my Snowman submission. I made this snowman scene with a kit, but the snowman is the first miniature porcelain Snowman from Hallmark’s “Snowtop Lodge” series. There is a wolf howling on the left and other animals around the snowy base.

I made these snowmen out of polymer clay for our miniature club’s holiday party. They are ornaments for a 1:12 scale Christmas tree.

Attached are photos of a mini I made with a snowman twist for my local dollhouse club gift exchange! Since we live in Florida I created sandmen instead of snowmen. They are created out of three wooden balls stacked on top of each other and secured to a wooden base. Then I painted them with glue and did multiple coats of glue and reptile sand. They have brown cording for arms and a starfish as a sun hat. And of course a sunny smile! They were really fun to make and I hope you like them! In the 80’s I took a class in VA where we made a porch inside a wreath. I’ve added snowmen to it including a melting one on the porch!

This is Santa and Mrs Claus’ snowman-themed bathroom. Their house is the only 1/12 scale dollhouse I have.
These are melted snowman cookies I made and taught to my NAME club (NUTS) along with the full-size ornament that was my inspiration.

Perhaps this little snowman couple, that I hand-painted on one of the 8mm dollhouse Christmas ornaments will be some of the tiniest snowmen in the December challenge. I just hope Mr & Mrs Snowman are big enough to participate in the Snowman challenge.

I build 2X5X6 boxes with an acrylic clear cover and use scrapbook paper for the background. It is snowtex snow on the ground.

An army of snowmen!! I joined the Fitch House Miniature Club in 2006 and this was my first holiday swap gift for our club party. I made the snowmen from a DIY article in "Dollhouse Miniatures" 2009, page 31, entitled "Snowman in a Snap". It is made with Styrofoam balls, a wood skewer, black Fimo, small sticks and Diamond Dust Twinklets. I made 24 total, 15 for club members and extras for gifts to friends and family (and one for me too!).

Here is a snowman scene done in a cookie jar I purchased from Hobby Lobby a few years ago. The inside shows a Christmas bazaar with tiny bears. The booths are from Mini Cousins and the bears are made by Karen Gibbs.

For the December 2025 Create Challenge, I am sending a submission titled “Before and After,” consisting of two snowman creations. The first snowman is in perfect winter form. My inspiration was a 1991 article in the Nutshell News, which included a pattern for the construction of a miniature snowman. However, as always, I used my own creativity to come up with some unique personal touches. His body is composed of three styrofoam balls, covered in white paste to look like snow. I used the same paste to create the snowy landscape. Both snowman and base are dusted with craft diamond dust to simulate the sparkle of snow on a sunny day. His eyes and mouth and the buttons that run down his chest are all made from miniature pieces of “coal,” the kind you use in miniature railway sets. His carrot nose is made from orange FIMO and his arms are made of miniature fragments of sticks from my backyard. The hat is made from black fabric glued to an index card cut into the correct shapes and his green plaid scarf is made from a stiff piece of ribbon. The broom is made of a wooden dowel with straw from a whisk broom, mixed with glue to bend it out of shape. I put a miniature shovel from my collection into the “snow.” It has already served its purpose and has been set aside for another snowy day. The second snowman – entirely my own creation – has (sadly) melted in winter sun! His body has deconstructed and his snowman identifiers – the jaunty top hat and stylish scarf, the carrot and coal features and stick arms -- are all slightly askew. The buttons are sliding down towards the ground and his broom – its end now straggly – has already fallen.

I made my snowmen from clay and Q-tips from my stash. The container is a hollowed-out tree limb I've had for years and don't remember who made it. The background was the first step and then I found this little 'limb' and just knew it was home for snowmen.

If you look closely you can see 2 figures in a snowball fight and a cat testing out the snow as well.

I, too, made Suzanne & Andrews Let It Snow market stall. So, instead, I'll share Debbie Young's "1/4" Gingerbread House" that I made back in September. The snowman outside is from my stash.

1 - A few years ago I purchased from Walmart some cookie cutters as containers for miniature settings. This snowman was one of those cookie cutters. I made several snowmen that year too. He is made of Fimo clay.
2 - This clear tree shaped candy box was once filled with Ferrero Rocher chocolates. I saw a Mary Engelbreit illustration with a bunny giving the snowman a little push down the hill. It was so charming I had to recreate the scene. I made the snowman and the bunny of Fimo clay.

I made these VERY tiny snowman scenes as table gifts for the NAME national convention in Indianapolis when the theme was Let it Snow. The photo was taken with them sitting on a normal Oreo cookie, so the scene is about 1.75 inches square.

The first two pix are small scenes in Altoid tins and feature snow men and other figures by Loredana Tonetti. The third pic shows bunnies making snow angels and building a snow man. These figures and the snowmen are all are by Sue Marti. The fourth pic is a tiny wood block house in the snow with a tiny snowman (3/8" tall) I got off eBay.

At a recent retreat, the First State Mini Club was given a challenge to create a scene in a teacup and saucer. This is mine. Though I didn’t make the snowman, I thought it might still be appropriate for the December challenge.
